Joan Proudman combines photographic imagery with digital illustration to achieve seamless compositions that delight and inspire. Her work is elegant and subtle, and sometimes contains symbolic messages which make for interesting and thoughtful greeting cards to share with others.
Every composition is original and meticulously-crafted. Cards are printed manually and one at a time, and measure 6.25x4.5" . Each card comes with an envelope and a protective sleeve and is suitable for all occasions. Cards are blank on the inside so that one's own personal thoughts can be written. All cards are printed with an Epson Injet Color Printer on high quality, bright white card stock. They retail for $6 each.
(Some designs are available as prints on demand as well as wood mounts. Click "Prints" or contact Joan for more info).
Artist Statement:
Some people go on long journeys, traveling by plane, boat or car, but I go inward into a world of symbols. Meaningful narratives unfold as if from an invisible source, evoking mystery, wonder and humor. As a child, I loved to draw figures and create fantasy worlds.
I received my BFA concurrently with a lifelong career in dance and theater, the latter of which strongly impacts my style.
Proudman's Art has been printed in and on book and CD covers, in manuals, magazines and online journals. “Rite of Passage” won Special Mention in Mozaik Philanthropy’s National Art Competition (2020). Proudman's images were featured in Shadow and Light Magazine’s Surreal Issue, (2021) and appeared in and as the cover art of Maine Arts Journal (2019).
My own photos as well as copyright-free images from the public domain provide the material for my compositions. I edit each image manually as well as the work as a whole. A Wacom digital pen, tablet, 22" iMac and Photoshop software is used to cut, paste, blend, filter and enhance multiple layers. I do not create with Ai.
